Apples Boost Female Arousal, Lubrication
An apple a day keeps arousal lively, according to a new study on women.
Researchers found that the sweet, crunchy snack could be used as an aphrodisiac as it can enhance female sexual enjoyment.
The latest study, which analyzed 731 healthy Italian women between the ages of 18 and 43, found that daily apple consumption significantly enhanced sexual function.
For the study, participants were asked to indicate their daily apple intake and their eating habits. Participants were divided into two groups, depending on their apple intake. One group consisted of women who ate more than one apple a day, and the other consisted of women who ate less than one a day.
The latest study used the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) questionnaire to determine the level of pleasure participants felt during sexual intercourse.
The study also revealed that women also enhanced sexual function by increasing female lubrication.
Researchers attribute the power of apples to a compound phloridzin, which is similar to the female hormone called estradiol.
"This study suggests a potential relationship between regular daily apple consumption and better sexuality in our young women population," researchers wrote in the study.
The findings were published in the journal Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics.
