Maintaining a healthy weight to height ratio is vital for one's wellbeing. In order to do so, people have to eat well and exercise. However, not everyone follows the same methods. Some might choose speed walking over running. Some might cut foods completely whereas others cut portions. In the end, it does not matter how people maintain or lose weight just as long as they are doing so in a healthy way.

Here are eight intriguing ways people around the world stay fit and healthy:

1. Doonya

Doonya, which is Hindi for "world," is sort of like the Indian version of Zumba, a dance workout that incorporates Latin dance moves, such as salsa and merengue. The fitness program, created by Priya Pandya and Kajal Desai, combines popular dance moves adapted from Bollywood films and turns them into a 60-minute workout routine. Currently, Doonya classes are available in New York City.

"Doonya emphasizes the connection of muscles to movement and the importance of controlling the body while releasing the mind from external distractions. This awareness of oneself empowers DOers-what we call our Doonya community-to know they have control over the changes they want to make in their lifestyles," Pandya said according to MSN.

2. Spices

In India, people use spices more so than exercise routines to help stay fit. Several studies have found that popular spices used in India, such as turmeric, can have many health benefits. In addition, spices in India are often used to add flavors without adding fats to a certain meal.

3. Juice

A juice diet or a juice cleanse has gained popularity over the past few years, particularly due to celebrities. Despite the attention that has recently been given to them, juice blends have long been popular in the China, where people combine ingredients, such as carrot, potato and apple to combat and prevent cancer.

4. The Garland Pose

The Garland pose is very popular in Malaysia. Women are often in this pose, which requires them to get into a super deep squat when they are performing house chores. This pose is more popularly known as Malasana in yoga.

5. Fermented Foods

In many Asian countries, such as Japan, Korea and Thailand, fermented foods are widely popular. This process changes carbohydrates to alcohols, carbon dioxide and/or organic acids with the help of yeast, bacteria or a combination of the two under airtight conditions. Some popular fermented foods include kimchi and yogurt, which are very healthy.

"In Japan and Thailand, processed food is not so common. However, beyond that, fermented foods are widely consumed and have great fitness benefits," commented Lani Anderson, a holistic care practitioner.

6. Tai qi

Tai qi, also known as tai chi, is a form of exercise practiced by mainly Chinese people. Tai chi is an internal martial art practice. Since Tai chi is considered to be a low-impact form of exercise, many older adults do it early in the mornings. This form of exercise has been linked to improving mental and physical wellbeing.

7. Everyday Errands as Exercise

In France, people do not really join gyms and work out. Instead, French people consider everyday activities, such as walking, carrying groceries and going to the beach as exercise. Walking everyday in combination with the smaller portions of food help keep French people's weight in check.

8. Eating at the Table

In certain countries, such as Italy, Spain and Portugal, sitting down and having a meal with others is the norm. By sitting down, people are more aware of what they are eating. In some other places of the world, people eat while running errands. This can lead to mindless overeating and expanding waistlines.

Regardless of how people stay fit throughout the world, it is important that they take care of their bodies.
