Temper tantrums usually occur between the ages of one to five years and can range from whining, crying to screaming, kicking, hitting and in extreme cases, even holding breathing.
Here are four ways you can handle your kid's temper tantrums.
Ignore
Sometimes ignoring the tantrum works best. When you stop responding to your child's temper tantrums, the behavior may get worse for a few days but will eventually stop.
Comfort without granting
When kid throws tantrums, try to comfort him/her without giving into his/her demands. Avoid punishing for the tantrums. Also it is not advisable to use words like 'bad girl' or 'bad boy' to describe the child during the temper tantrum.
Be a good role model
As parents, you should always try to be a good role models to your children. They often learn by watching their parents, therefore it would be better if you set a good example by handling your own frustration calmly.
Communicate
So, if your child wants candy, explain why you are not letting him or her eat it. Explaining makes things easier to deal with.
If nothing works, try distracting your child. Make a funny face, or tell a joke to get your child's mind off what's upsetting him or her.
