Journalists Drink the Most Coffee, Survey Finds
Journalists and people who work in the media consume the most amount of coffee in comparison to people with different careers, a new survey found. In the survey, conducted by a blog called Pressat from the United Kingdom, researchers ranked the top 10 careers that drink the most coffee.
"It seems that drinking coffee is a necessity on the job in a wide variety of professions," the Pressat team explained according to The Guardian. "The highest consumers, sinking over four cups daily, were those with stressful careers... Could it be that being overstretched or working late pushed the workforce to consume more caffeine?"
The survey reached 10,000 professionals and found that after journalists and media people, police officers came in second on the list. Cops were followed by teachers. Professionals holding any of these top three jobs reported drinking more than four cups of coffee per day.
Coming in fourth place were plumbers and trade workers, followed by nurses and medical staff. Spots six and seven were filled with company executives and telesales respectively. IT technical support, retail staff and drivers took the last three spots on the list.
Overall, 85 percent of the people surveyed stated that they drank at least three cups of coffee per day. Roughly 70 percent of these people believed that their ability to work would be negatively affected if they could not drink coffee. In terms of gender, men drank about five percent more coffee than women.
Even though coffee has been linked to many health benefits, consuming too much of any thing can be detrimental. People who drink excessive amounts of coffee might experience increased heart rate, anxiety and stomach problems.
