Six Tips for a Healthier Thanksgiving

A Thanksgiving meal typically includes a wide range of delicious foods and desserts. Even though this holiday is surrounded by food, it does not mean that you have to be unhealthy. Here are six ways you can stay healthy during this festive celebration.

1. Stick with your exercise routine

Just because it is the holidays, it does not mean that you should pause your exercise routine. Try to exercise normally during Thanksgiving. If you are too busy, consider doing shorter but more intense exercise workouts.

2. Serve healthy snacks

Before the big meal, you and your guests are most likely going to want to snack. Instead of offering snacks high in fat and calories, choose options that are healthier. For example, instead of cheese dip, serve hummus with fresh vegetables.

3. Drink lots of water

Throughout the holidays, remember to drink lots of water. Water, which is essential for the body, can make you feel full and prevent you from overeating.

4. Serve larger platters of healthy foods

When planning out the menu, try to serve larger portions of the healthier options, such as vegetables and lean protein, and smaller portions of the less healthy dishes. This way, your leftovers will most likely be healthy.

5. Eat early

Eat your Thanksgiving meal as early as you can. By starting in the afternoon as opposed to the evening, your body will have a longer time to digest the food before sleeping.
