Over 400 Earthquakes Rattled California’s San Ramon in 2 Weeks: USGS
California's San Ramon area has set a shattering new record with over 400 earthquakes rattling the Bay area town in a span of just 2 weeks. Since October 13th around 446 earthquakes have been recorded, which averages to more than one quake an hour, reports US Geological Survey (USGS).
However, the magnitude of the quakes have been quite small and most of them were not really felt or went unnoticed, according to the US Geological Survey. It's comforting to note that most of the earthquakes remained under magnitude 4 and the earthquake with the largest magnitude at 3.6 was felt on October 19th. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, a USGS spokeswoman reassured by saying that these tiny tremors are relatively harmless and that there was only a mere 6.7% chance of a damaging earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 or higher to occur, over the next 3 decades.
Further, according to the San Francisco Chronicle the present swarm of consistent tremors and earthquakes could very well continue and go on for a few more weeks before coming to a stop. The Los Angeles Times, in their report have said that these earthquakes are occurring around 5 to 6 miles underground.
As per the latest update by USGS, increased activity has been witnessed over the last few days, with 28 earthquakes being detected within the last 24 hours. An earthquake measuring at 3.1 magnitude was felt on October 27th.
