iOS 9’s Apple News Increase Publisher Base as Readership Reaches 40 Million
Apple News is gaining steady readership that is more than twice readers as Apple Music listeners. The reason for the increase has been attributed to easy use of the service without any requirement to signup or the subscription plan. With the increased adoption of the news app, Apple is expanding the publisher base by making their "Apple News Format" known publicly. The format for Apple News helps the publishers to create interesting animated and dynamic content that the users can access through their news app upon upgrading to iOS 9. So far, this format is accessible to only a handful of publishing partners such as Conde Nast, The New York Times, ESPN etc. The other publishers are only allowed to submit RSS feed of their content that can be viewed by the users in textual format only and a link that takes the user out of the app, reports AppleInsider.
Now that the format has been made available to all the publishers, other users can change the format of their articles as per the layout that is compatible with the latest typography and iOS fonts. They can also add interactive photo galleries, animations and in-line videos and modern layouts. According to Tim Cook, "Nearly 40 million people are reading Apple News, and we've been getting very positive feedback from the publishers". In a conference call, he also added that, "we have now signed more than 70 publishers representing hundreds of titles, and we're happy to announce that News just launched in the United Kingdom and Australia with partners such as the BBC, News Corp, The Telegraph, The Guardian, Financial Times, Daily Mail and the Australian Broadcasting Service". As per AppleInsider, what makes the publisher's content more attractive to the users is that it is customized to their preference and the articles are organized by topics.
