Brisk Walking Helps Weight-loss, Maybe Better than a Workout at the Gym
Who doesn't enjoy a fresh early morning walk around a scenic park or a brisk evening walk by the beach? It's even more enjoyable when you have company. If you are a regular walker, here is some good news to keep you at it!
According to reports by The Times, a study conducted by a group of researchers from the London School of Economics and Political Science, have claimed that half an hour of brisk walking can do wonders to your body and in keeping your weight at bay. In fact, apparently, walking gives even better results than other forms of exercises and fitness activities such as running, working out at a gym, swimming etc. However, it should be noted that the walking needs to be brisk and at a pace that raises the heart rate and breaks out a sweat, for the results to show.
This edifying research was led by Dr Grace Lordan, who analyzed varied data related to fitness from the annual Health Survey for England (HSE) during the years 1999 to 2012. She particularly studied data of work outs that were of moderate intensity such as walking, gym, swimming, running, cycling, dancing etc and examined the correlated data with regards to Body Mass Index (BMI) to base her revelation. It was found that brisk walking had the best and strongest link with weight control as compared to other forms of fitness activities, reports BT.
Further, BT also claims that the study stated that the effects of walking were particularly more positive in women, and also for both men and women who were above 50 years old. The best part of walking is that it can be done whenever you feel like it, wherever you feel like it and it's absolutely free of cost!
