Microsoft’s Windows 10 Update Ambitions May Cause IT Rage
With Windows 10, Microsoft has made clear about its role in managing the update process of windows. The company also made its intentions clear that they will aggressively push the businesses and consumers to upgrade their old windows, 7 and 8 to its latest version, Windows 10. Microsoft's ambitions to push their new OS harder will not let the old OS versions survive as long as XP did. This decision to periodically update their OS and ensure that all the devices receive them in time explains a lot about the service standards of Windows. This change may not be noticed by many users but the IT departments will not like this shift, says Computer World.
Earlier, Microsoft gave IT the the final word on updates and patches. The departments had the freedom to come up with patches and upgrades in their own time frames after sufficiently testing it in their particular environment. This ensured that the upgrade ran smoothly on PC or app without causing any unforeseen problems. If there were speculated issues that need to be addressed with an update, the IT team could plan to address it before deploying the update. Some updates never even see the light of day because they are considered unnecessary, as per Computer World.
However, with windows 10, all of that is going to change since Microsoft is all set to adopt the service-and-update strategy based on tracks called as branches. This model tests the security and other features internally making it available to the Windows insiders. The updates will be revealed to the Current Branch or CB only when they are ready to be published. The CB devices that are used by the consumers directly will receive the update directly when they update Windows on their device. Giving too much control to Microsoft is not making the IT pros very happy, reports Entertainment Media News.
