Watchout! Android Malware That Force You To Buy A New Phone
Android users beware! There exists a Trojan malware that root to your phones and can be nearly impossible to remove, warranting a visit to the device store for a new phone.
Mashable detailed in its report three families of malware that were found to shape-shift into legitimate apps. The malware is not obvious and leaves apps functionality intact. However, the level of access it has can compromise security has researchers worried given the fact that it can be very difficult to remove.
"The act of rooting the device in the first place creates additional security risk for enterprises and individuals alike, as other apps can then get root access to the device, giving them unrestricted access to files outside of their domain. Usually applications are not allowed to access the files created by other applications, however with root access, those limitation are easily bypassed," wrote Michael Bentley of security research firm Lookout.
Bentley said Lookout found that malware, viz. Shedun, Shuanet, and ShiftyBug, could masquerade as popular apps including Candy Crush, Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, Whatsapp and more.
While buying a new phone may become an eventuality for most users, reflashing the ROM could potentially get rid of malware, reports Mashable while adding that users of Google and other third-party app stores are affected.
