iPhone Rumors And Specifications: Without AMOLED, Apple Could Lose Out On Power Efficiency

Apple's next generation of phones may not ace the iPhone 6S in power efficiency, if leaks about the iPhone 7 prove true. Additionally, it could also farer poorer than competition in this sector .

Citing other sources, The Week reported that Apple is unlikely to shift to using AMOLED screens in iPhone 7. Instead, LCD screens currently being used will continue to remain. Given that rumors suggest Apple could be making a super-thin iPhone 7, a bigger battery may be difficult to squeeze in.

According to Forbes, which attributed its report to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is unlikely to start using AMOLED before 2018. AMOLED screens are more power-efficient than LCD ones that Apple is using. Additionally, Apple's rivals making Android phones have moved to AMOLED, though iPhone users may not mind given that Apple displays are still regarded among the best.

Mixed speculation about the iPhone 7 thus far suggests that Apple may introduce bevel-less screen, do away with the iconic home button in the process. Other reports suggested a thinner iPhone in a 5-inch form factor. It must be noted that Apple has not commented on any of the leaks, including reports based on patents it filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and a mini 4-inch iPhone.
