October was a good month for gaming with the release of Halo 5. The game was the biggest release for the month and it delivered as expected by being the number one game for a single system release. Even though Halo single handedly led the gaming revenue to an $800 Million mark, the other games failed to contribute to the industry and fell short of the $1 Billion target. According to NPD Analyst Liam Callahan, "New physical video game software sales decreased by 3 percent from October 2014. With trends mirroring hardware as console game sales were offset by a 42 percent decline in portable game sales", reports Venture Beat.

Callahan further added, "[This] generation of consoles had a strong month with 62 percent growth over October 2014, while last-generation console sales dropped by 63 percent. That's higher than the year-to-date decrease in sales of 51 percent." Many players are seemingly running away from the last gen consoles. However, Microsoft clearly benefitted from it as some Xbox 360 owners made a switch to Xbox One for the new Halo, as per Venture Beat.

Halo 5: The Guardians helped amplify the software sales since the title is being made exclusively available to Xbox One. As far as the new game hardware and software are concerned, the American gaming consumers didn't mind spending a whopping $805.9 Million for this new game and the related software, reports Ubergizmo.
