Charlie Sheen Health Scandal: Actor's Ex, Nurse Amanda Bruce Reveals PreP Pill Keep Her Safe From HIV Despite Intimate Contact
Charlie Sheen had a number of unprotected sex despite his knowledge of the presence of the HIV virus inside his body. However, one of his exes, nurse Amanda Bruce shared that a pill kept her safe from the infection despite everyday physical contact with the actor in their eight-months-long relationship.
In the Dr. Oz show, Amanda sat with one of Sheen's physician Dr. Robert Huizenga who advised her to take PrEP(pre- exposure prophylaxisto) before having sex so that her chances of getting the infection will be lowered, Daily Mail reported.
Bruce confessed that they were 'intimate everyday' and had strong feelings for the actor at that time.
"I mean, if I had met him on one night, and we had decided to engage in this, I'd say, "That's Russian Roulette. The reality is, we had known each other for many months before we engaged in [sexual relations], and we were a couple, I was in love with him," she added.
Huizenga is also said to have oriented Bruce about the effectiveness of the medicine.
"I was the doctor for her boyfriend, we called in other doctors and they felt the risk of transmission if she took the prophylaxis and he had undetectable level was miniscule. We can't say it's zero," the doctor said.
According to NBC, PreP has been out in the market since 2012 and is recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention since 2014. However, only a small number of doctors know about it.
PrEP isn't reaching many people who could benefit from it, and many providers remain unaware of its promise. With about 40,000 HIV infections newly diagnosed each year in the U.S., we need to use all available prevention strategies," CDC Director Dr. Tom Frieden told the news source.
Nurse Amanda Bruce is one among the many friends who came out in the open and spoke of Charlie Sheen's infection. In another interview, the Two And A Half Men's former assistant, Steven Hans also shared his story on how he began to suspect that the 50-year old actor had HIV
In an interview with Mirror via Inquisitr, the 34-year old shared that Sheen accidentally cut his leg while enjoying one of his wild porn party. A friend tried to help the actor but he warned him not to go near his 'tiger blood.'
"Don't touch my blood, don't touch my blood, I got this," the actor screamed that time.
