New Technology to Replace Wi-Fi that will make Broadband at Home 100 Times Faster
When German physicist Harald Haas outlined the idea of using light bulbs for a router during TED Talk, the term LiFi was formed. Just like any other big talk, this one too was speculated to be considered an evolutionary breakthrough that will never see the light of day. However, after 4 years of delivering this address on TED Talk, Haas, a mobile communication professor at the University of Edinburgh, finally created the PureLiFi technology that has been in the works since 2008. Together with the people who were working on this technology, the company has already produced two products and already determined the industry leaders of Li-Fi, reports The International Business Times.
No more sluggish internet now that Li-Fi has finally come to fruition. This cutting edge technology will bring internet in your homes at a lightning speed. So far, the technology has been referred to as Li-Fi and has only been tested in the restrained environment of a lab. However, the scientists have already tested the prototype of it in the real and the results were amazing. When the trials were conducted in Estonia, the recorded speed of Li-Fi was 1GB per second which is over 100 times faster than the current WiFi at home. Deepak Solanki, CEO of Estonian tech company, Velmenni, told IBTimes UK, "We are doing a few pilot projects within different industries where we can utilise the VLC (visible light communication) technology." He added, "Currently we have designed a smart lighting solution for an industrial environment where the data communication is done through light. He also mentioned, "We are also doing a pilot project with a private client where we are setting up a Li-Fi network to access the Internet in their office space," reports Express.
