Here are some ways to Fight ISIS Expansion on the Cyber World
With the amplifying number of the ISIS day after day, the terror group has now posed a threat to the World Community at large.
The terror group aims at expanding their number by propagating their ideology over the cyber world and thus posing a threat to peace and security. Thus, it is very important for everyone to be educated about ways that help to prevent the encroachment of the ISIS members in the cyber world.
As the international community has now geared up to curb the expansion of the ISIS, a group of "Anonymous" hacker, widely known as "hackavists" have announced to stop the expansion of the ISIS activities online. However, here are some of the simple measures that one could take in order to curb illegitimate activities and in a way contribute to the ultimate goal of these "hackavists".
1. One could join publicly and legally known movements like Courage Foundation, WWW Defence League, Occupy Wall Street, and many other such movements to get involved with the hackavists.
2. Advocate the skill to navigate through Open Source Software's (OSS).
3. All the commonly used web browsers have faced security flaws in the recent past. Therefore, it is important for every user to disable third party cookies, clear them on exit, disable Flash, Java, change default search engines and avoid installing extensions. Users need to install third party software like Thunderbird and then configure his mail account with the software. It allows the user to write a normal text mail and later, it encrypts the content.
4. Usage of the Off the Record (OTR), a protocol that allows the users to chat with the other users under complete confidentiality. The users need ti use the OTR with an open source instant messaging service client, like Pidgin, to start a conversation with other group members.
5. Though many of the users are on the notion that the Skype platform is maintained under strict security norms, it is unfortunate to note that the a group of Canadian Human Rights Activists and computer security researchers have discovered a huge surveillance system in China that monitors and archives certain internet text conversations which include politically charged words. The system tracks text messages sent by customers of Tom-skype, a joint venture between a Chinese Wireless operator and eBay (the Web auctioneer that owns Skype), an online phone and text messaging service.
