Russia's Manned Mission For Permanent Moon Base Likely By 2030

Looks like Russia's space program is not just crying for the moon---it is getting what it wants. Its Federal Space Agency, Roscosmos, has announced that it is planning to build "a fully manned base on the moon", according to TASS, Russia's official news agency.

However, this calls for building up a number of modules on the moon, requiring a number of launches using the Angara A5V rocket, designed to carry heavy loads to space.

The first components of the mission are being put up, including the Luna 25 lander.

It will begin in 2024 when Russia sends out a lunar probe in order to search for a possible location. After that, the building of the modules will begin, taking a decade to complete, according to Yahoo! News UK.

It is expected that the preliminary part will be over by 2029. By 2030, Russia hopes to land a man on the moon.

Interestingly, Russia is aiming for a "permanent base on the moon's surface".

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin mentioned the project last year, explaining: "We are coming to the moon forever."
