Patent Dispute Between Samsung and Apple to be Settled for $548 Million
The war between Apple and Samsung has finally settled where the latter has agreed to pay the damages in its long running patent case. Samsung fought bitterly to avoid paying damages at all but the company has finally conceded and will be paying the amount of $548 Million that it owes for invading the designs and patents of its biggest competitor. As per the papers filed in a federal court in San Jose, California, Samsung has agreed to pay the amount by 14th December if Apple Inc. sends the invoice. Apple has declined to comment when asked if they have done so. The amount has been agreed on after the U.S. appeals court reduced the $930 Million amount last May against Samsung by $382 Million. The lawsuit stems from a 2102 verdict that accused Samsung of infringing designs and patents of Apple iPhone, as reported by First Post.
"While we've agreed to pay Apple, we remain confident that our products do not infringe on Apple's design patents, and we will continue to take all appropriate measures within the legal system to protect our products and our intellectual property," said Samsung. Apple is disputing Samsung's right to reimbursement. They are also demanding that the company pay their court costs to the tune of $1.8 Million that Samsung doesn't want to, for obvious reasons, reported Tech Times.
From the looks of it, it is expected that the case will end soon but it is also expected to go on for a while. This is mainly because neither side is willing to agree with what the other side proposed in the settlement. An Apple Spokeswoman said that the company has nothing more to say than the joint filling and refused to comment further, said CNET.
