Lamar Odom's Health Improving, Can Walk Without Help
Lamar Odom is recovering slowly, but the improvement is quite major. He was found unconscious at a Nevada brothel after a near fatal overdose last October, and suffered from severe brain and kidney damage. Still he is doing well now.
Though he has walked very well till now, on Thursday, he could walk without support, and took three steps on his own, throwing doctors into some surprise, said sources to TMZ.
Although his hands are still not functioning well, they show a limited mobility. Still, during a recent visit from his estranged wife, Khloé Kardashian, he could wear his hood---a huge improvement.
Even as his brain is improving, he could recently recognize a hospital staff member, which he was not able to do earlier. He could not even recognise his relatives for a while. Soon, he will be shifted to a rehab centre.
"They told me that he had four hours," Kardashian, 31, said earlier. "It's a horrible call to get. Getting to the hospital and knowing he's in a coma and having to run these tests or make medical decisions - it's terrifying."
He had not even been aware that he was at a hospital, or why, said Khloe Kardashian, earlier.
"He gets better a little bit every day," a source told Us Weekly. "He took a few steps without the walker. It's very slow and he's supposed to go to the rehab any day now."
"We tell him that he had a brain injury, but we can't tell him how that brain injury was caused because that will set him back," said Kardashian to an Ellen Generes show. "He never asks why he's here. He doesn't ask. He's really confused a lot - sometimes he knows who the president is and his birthday, and sometimes he thinks he's 26 and I say, 'I bet you wish you were 26. So do I!'"
He will be moving to a rehab facility soon, but once he gets released and can return, Kardashian does not want to take him back to her home. Although she has lent a helping hand throughout his stay at the hospital, she does not want to continue it beyond a point.
"Lamar can't stay at [the hospital] forever," said a source earlier this month. "He needs long-term care. His associates really would like for him to have a home health-care type of situation, but that may not be possible. Khloé has flat out refused to let Lamar move into her house. She doesn't want her house to be a hospital. She has been very clear about that.... Lamar's people want him to be in a quality care facility. But they are having trouble finding one that is secure and will provide him with the treatment he needs."
