Just barely two weeks after announcing his triumph over melanoma cancer, former US President Jimmy Carter shared heartbreaking news with his Maranatha Baptist Church Congregation at Plains, Georgia- the recent death of his 28-year old grandson.

He broke the news to his church family after arriving 25 minutes late for his regularly planned Sunday School lesson.

According to People, Carter's grandson, Jeremy, died from a heart attack in front of his mother who desperately tried everything she can just to keep him alive. She even tried CPR to revive him but to no avail.

Maranatha Baptist Church Pastor Rev. Jeremy Shoulta said that Jeremy had not been feeling well for quite some time and was finally laid to rest as mentioned by CNN.

In a blog post by Josh, Jeremy's brother, revealed that the past two weeks was a "battery of tests" for Jeremy and doctor's didn't seem to medically figure out what's wrong.

Fayette County Coroner C.J. Mowell Jr is doing his best to determine the exact cause of the young Carter's death with help from the state medical examiner's office as reported by ABC 7 News.

Despite the great emotional setback that is apparently weighing the 91 year-old Carter down, the former President remains upbeat and thankful as he continues his socio-civic mission.

"I'm not surprised. That's the kind of Christian he is. Everything that happens in life, good or bad, he uses as a teaching experience. He lives his life as a lesson for other people to see, "told Maranatha church member Jan Williams as quoted saying by Albany Herald.
