Google Launches Virtual Reality Tour of White House

The first ever virtual reality video launched by Google covers the White House in its Christmas mode. The short movie is a combination of static images, narration and a guided virtual tour. As per the reports, Google uses 16-camera setup from its jump camera rig for the purpose of filming the White House. The video is a short 5-minute walk through the building that highlights the holiday decoration and traditions behind it. You can also see Obama's family dog, Bo, running in one of the frames. The quality of the video could have been better as it seems a little fuzzy even on the highest quality setting, said PC Mag.

"The White House is a place plenty of people will never go and a virtual tour is theoretically enlightening. Unfortunately, this video sort of feels like you're a 10-year-old being dragged down the corridors by an underpaid tour guide. Maybe I'm cynical. Ok, I'm cynical. But this could have been amazing. One day, when the tools to create virtual reality are better-and more people know how to create high-quality experiences-it will be," writes Mario Aguilar from Gizmodo.

The tour is posted on the White House's YouTube page that walks you through many rooms and offers insight into the room's history and the corresponding decoration. If you need a proper VR experience, you would require Google Cardboard viewer and the video seems a little blurry at the default settings so take the quality a level up to see it better. According to Engadget, the video of White House looks somewhat similar to the Google Street view. If you want to create your very own virtual tour, you can invest you own Google Jump rig set that costs about $15,000.
