After User Complaints, Microsoft Disabled Cortana for Android Voice
After Microsoft turned off the "Hey Cortana" voice activation feature on Sunday, the users using Cortana for Android were not very pleased. The reviewers were unhappy about their inability to launch the Microsoft's Virtual Assistant by using their own voice, it appears that the feature was disabled to allay a bug. As per Microsoft, when the users enabled "Hey Cortana", they could not use the system-wide voice search feature in Android. Simply put, the users were unable to use either or both the Android features of "OK Google" and "Hey Cortana". Even though running the two voice based assistant may seem strange but voice-activated search powered by Google can also function inside an app. The other problem with Cortana is that it uses Bing as its default search engine. People who like to use Google for looking for stuff on the internet may want to use both the options. Cortana for Android was updated by Microsoft to eliminate the hand-free piece from it. The company this week introduced an update that will remove the "Hey Cortana" phrase from Google Platform.
Cortana for Android was released earlier this month by Microsoft in the Chinese and the United States market. The most interesting feature of using Cortana is the hands-free facility. Just like "Ok Google" the users were able to initiate search by just using voice command. However, since the feature started interfering with the Google's hands-free, the company had to remove it from the users in the United States. "We've received user feedback that the 'Hey Cortana' feature is conflicting with Android voice search and are temporarily disabling the feature while we evaluate a solution," a Microsoft spokesperson told Venture Beat. For now, it appears that the functionality will not be introduced until 2016.
