Over 50 people killed in two days of Boko Haram attacks
Over fifty people were killed in a 48 hour attack launched by the jihadist extremists Boko Haram in the north eastern Nigeria.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari pledged to defeat the insurgency by the 31st of December.
The militants have also launched rocket propelled grenades and used a small army of suicide bombers, and ended up killing twenty two people in the key north eastern city of Maiduguri, the spiritual home of the insurgents.
Yan St Pierre, terrorism analyst at Berlin-based Modern Security Consulting Group said, "Saying Boko Haram is technically defeated in a period where the organization is historically very active - Christmas - could only make him look bad. President Buhari's credibility and popularity will be greatly damaged by this". Further he said, "Boko Haram is still extremely dangerous and it sgaining resources, notoriety, credibility and successfully expanding its reach".
