SpaceShipTwo, Second Virgin Galactic Flight to be Unveiled in February
The second spaceship belonging to the billionaire Sir Richard Branson will be unveiled on Feb. 19, fifteen months since its first suborbital spacecraft perished in a test flight. The newly finished vehicle will be revealed by the space tourism company, Virgin Galactic along with its manufacturing subsidiary, The Spaceship Company at its Final Assembly, Integration and Test Flight Hangar, abbreviated as FAITH, at Mojave Air and Space Port located in California. This invite-only event is expected to be graced by the famous theoretical physicist and cosmologist to help uncover the craft and also choose a suitable name for SS2. "We are very honored that Stephen has agreed to help us unveil our new spaceship in February, if he is feeling well enough," said Richard Branson, Virgin Galactic's billionaire founder, in a blog published on his Virgin Group's website last month. Branson also mentioned in his blog that Hawking is being gifted with a free ticket to fly SpaceShipTwo, the only free ride ever offered by the company till date, if his health permits. "Professor Hawking has often spoken of his admiration for what Virgin Galactic is doing to democratize space," wrote Branson, "previously sharing his 'respect for enabling more of humanity to experience the true wonder of space," reports Geek Wire.
It has been more than a year since SpaceShipTwo rocket was wrecked in a test flight. According to Virgin Galactic, the second slight is all set to roll out this year. Many VIPs, officials and journalists will be invited to the event. This event will mark an important step in Virgin Galactic's effort to take the researchers, their payloads and also tourists on a trip to the outer edge of space, as reported by Northern California News
