Rescue Dog Locates And Saves Missing Elderly Woman In A Ditch
Last August, Roxanne, a lovely Labrador-hound mix, was rescued by her owner, Rebecca Burley. On Dec. 29, it was Roxanne's turn to reciprocate, said ABC10.
At their Norfolk, Va.,neighborhood Rebecca Burley and Roxanne noticed that there were many cops scouring the region. One officer approached them to ask whether they had seen a woman wandering in a nightgown. Burley said she hadn't but that she would look out for it.
Just five minutes later, Roxanne pulled her owner to a ditch nearby, which alerted Burley to the ditch, which she would not have noticed otherwise.
"I definitely, as a person, would not have been paying attention to the ditch that collects water and where people throw their trash," said Burley, according to USA Today.
Thankfully, Roxanne understood that she had to locate the woman, which made Burley contact the authorities immediately. An ambulance was immediately contacted, which arrived promptly and took her to the hospital.
"It's a really interesting story, but we want to know that it turns out okay," said Burley, hoping for her recovery.
Burley immediately rewarded Roxanne with an extra cookie. She is a disciplined volunteer at the Isle of Wight Animal Shelter and hopes that Roxanne will inspire others to give a good chance to other rescued dogs at the shelter.
