You can now kiss your sluggish Wi-Fi goodbye and make way for a revolutionary new technology, Li-Fi, that is taking the internet by the storm, literally. Imagine downloading your favorite show or a movie as you stand under a light bulb and that too in a few seconds. This new technology is not imaginary, but a reality and it is happening right now. Light Fidelity, known as Li-Fi, is the upcoming high-speed internet technology that allows transmission of data through visible communication with the light, that is ransmitting high-speed data by using the power of light. The term was coined by the German physicist, Harald Haas, in TED Talk when he spoke about the prospects of using light-bulbs as wireless routers, as reported by Zee News

Those who are working and revolutionizing the Li-Fi technology or visible light technology say that wherever there is light, there is high speed internet, said Harald Haas at the University of Edinburgh, UK, one of the technology's main advocates. According to Haas, light is a substitute to radio that will allow the device to exchange massive data without any interruptions, as reported by News Scientist.

If all goes as planned, then this new technology can change the way we use the internet. It is said to be at least 100 times faster than the traditional Wi-Fi that is based on transmission of radio waves. When tested in a lab, Li-Fi attained a speed of 224 GB per second. Simply put, it is possible to download as many as 18 movies, each 1 GB at least per second. Industry experts already feel that this industry will grow up to become at least $113 billion by 2022, says Zee News
