Tracey Thompson successfully delivered her child-as-well-as-grandchild on January 6 at Wylie, Texas.

She had offered to act as surrogate mother for her daughter, Kelley McKissack, who faced problems in carrying her fetuses in earlier pregnancies, according to the Dallas Fortworth CBS 11 News.

When she had been 13, Kelley had asked her mother if she would carry her child for her if she couldn't have her own. Kelley now believes that it was God's way of sending a message to her, according to Hello Magazine.

Aoron and Kelley McKissack had tried to have a baby three times but suffered miscarriages, which set them on the path to explore alternatives infertility treatment options. When none of them worked out, her mother offered to carry the in vitro-fertilized embryo planted in her womb in April last year.

Even though she was 54, and nearly seven years past menopause, she decided to carry the baby in her womb. Her son was 30 years old.

It had been a nervous time for her, as she wanted the delivery to be successful for her daughter. Finally, her grand-daughter was born on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016, at the Medical Center of Plano. The girl was named Kelcey, which blended the names of both mother and grandmother.

At a press conference at the hospital, Kelley, who had been present with her mother during the delivery, called it "the best gift... for a lifetime".

The mother, thrilled at the delivery, said: "It is such a blessing that I can do this for my daughter."
