A new study recently revealed that there is no negative connection between the relationship satisfaction and number of hours worked. "Our research questions the assumption that working longer hours is hazardous for all romantic relationships," the study said. According to the traditional belief and also some research work suggests that partners that are both pursuing their career have to choose between their relationships and career. "Our study attempts to help answer the question of whether dual-career couples should be hesitant to devote many hours to their work when they fear negative relationship consequences," the researchers noted. For the purpose of the study, 285 couples participated in the research and helped the team to analyze the effects of working hours on relationships, reported Zee News.

The researchers examined the link between the working time of the participants, their happiness levels and their private live with regards to their relationships. The team of researchers from Switzerland and Germany realized that the couples made up for the time lost while working to make the best of the time that they had available after work. The findings revealed that the career-driven people realized the importance of their professional goals but were also aware that they cannot neglect their relationships. "There was no negative association between working time and relationship satisfaction," the study said. Rather than finding negative effect of long working hours, the study revealed that the couple actually made an effort to spend some quality time with their partners after a long day at work, leading the researchers to suggest that longer work-hours may even be beneficial for the relationship, said CTV News.

The study was published by SAGE in the journal Human Relations in partnership with The Tavistock Insistute in the UK.
