Country code of China, ".cn" has become the largest in the world that is being used most commonly on the internet with more than 16.36 million users, besting ".de" of Germany. According to the official data, the country has as many as 670 internet users and over 4.13 million websites. The data released on Friday by China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), that manages the domain name, said that '.cn' had over 16 million used by the end of 2015. CNNIC head, Li Xiadong, also said that it is also leading in the world in domain resolution service, security and ratio of nonthreatening use, as reported by The Hindu. Mr. Li added, that as China required real name for the registration since 2009, it helped in protecting the users against online theft, phishing and fraud while protecting the interest of the users. Earlier it was Germany that has the maximum number of websites registered under .de domain.

This domain is not only used widely by the Chinese institutions and companies but also by the multinational companies and institutions, said CNNIC. Most telecom companies, commercial banks, provincial governments in China use this domain, said the state-run news agency in Xinhua. Multinationals include brand names such as Amazon, Apple, Citibank and Microsoft amongt other top names.
