The rumor has been out there for sometime has now been somewhat confirmed that with iPhone 7, Apple will abandon its headphone jack. Fast Company, reputed business title in its latest publication tapped into into an internal Apple "source with knowledge of the company's plans" and confirm the company's plans to remove the headphone jack. "As has been rumored, our source confirms that the new phone will rely on its Lightning cable port for sound output to wired headphones," said Fast Company writer Mark Sullivan. "That port has been used for power and data transfer in recent iPhones. Users can also use wireless headphones," as reported by Forbes. The company is also looking into working with an audio chip maker, Cirrus Logic, to help formulate the transition and add noise cancelling technology that will eliminate background noise during calls and music playback.

Fast Company also says that the noise cancelling will also have the possibility of being included into the Apple's spec for lighting-speed headphones so that this functionality can be made available to older iPhone models too. This could be a great way to encourage use of lightning headphones, said Forbes.

According to Mark Sullivan, the sources confirm the rumors that the new phone will rely on its lightning cable port to be the source of sound output to the wired headphones. Users can also use the wireless headphones so that the port can be used for power charging and data transfer. According to Fast Company, Apple is taking a huge risk by removing the headphones from its packaged box. It is also speculated that Apple may sell its premium noise cancelling lightning earphones separately. The only inclusion will be 3.5 mm adaptor that will come along the iPhone 7, as reported by Gizmoids.
