Three Killed in French Alps Avalanche
After the catastrophic avalanche in the French Alps, all the skiers who went missing have been accounted for, according to police reports.
Two of the 10 students involved as well as another unrelated Ukrainian skier have died, according to NBC News.
On Wednesday, 4 p.m., the avalanche had struck. The group of 10 and a teacher had been skiing on the French Alps, Les Deux Alpes resort on the Bellecombe piste, even though it had been closed for the general public, according to The Le Dauphine Libere.
It is strange that the group had gone out for the skiing. Heavy snowfall had been warned in a report posted Tuesday on the resort's official website.
The avalanche risk on Bellecombe was listed as "black" or the most difficult level, along with "massive" with large snow accumulations and high winds, reported The Independent.
Rescue teams with dogs and helicopters are on the search. Four students have suffered cardiac arrest while the teacher was unconscious, and many others were evacuated to a hospital in Grenoble. A 14-year-old is dead.
