Apple was quick to claim the top spot in all the gadgets out there and the same was true for the smart watch market too. Even though the smart watch sales made by Apple have not been revealed, a new report by Juniper Research, a market research firm, says that Apple has shipped 51.5% of the world's smartwatches in 2015. However, one thing to note is that the report is directed towards the shipment numbers and not the actual sales of these watches to the consumers. But to be fair, there have also been no reports of retailers sitting on unsold Apple watch stock, reported Hot Hardware

According to the study, the total number of units sold all across the world for smartwatches in 2015 has been 17.1 million. If Apple accounts for 51.5% of this figure, then the shipments will exceed 8.8 million units of Apple Watch, a very notable number considering the short life of wearable technology in today's market. Apple Watch debuted in April last year. It will also help to note that this report only talks about smart watches and not the entire market of wearable technology. This means that brands like Microsoft Band, FitBit and others are not a part of this report. However, regardless of that, it is not surprising to see Apple's success in the smartwatch domain. They waited for other companies to launch their products in the market, tested it with the first-run devices and then introduced their own polished versions. The biggest advantage that Apple Watch enjoyed was that of over 10,000 compatible apps that work flawlessly on Apple Watch, as compared to a 4,000 apps that work on Android devices, reported Hot Hardware
