Berries, citrus fruits and red wine are rich in biochemical that help men keep impotence at bay, said a new nutrition study. Foods that contain high amounts of flavonoids are linked with reduced risk of erectile dysfunction, said the researchers in a study published on 13th Jan in American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Brisk walk 2-5 hours per week teamed with flavonoid-rich diet may be good to treat erectile dysfunction, said the researchers from Harvard University's T.H. Chan School of Public Health and the University of East Anglia in England. It is the flavonoids that lend rich color to fruits and vegetables. The study discovered that three specific flavonoids - flavones, flavanones and anthocyanins, were the most beneficial in preventing impotency, as reported by Chicago Tribune

"Men who regularly consumed foods high in these flavonoids were 10 percent less likely to suffer erectile dysfunction," lead researcher Aedin Cassidy, a professor of nutrition at the University of East Anglia, said in a university media release. "In terms of quantities, we're talking just a few portions a week."

"According to a study we did, four in 10 men over the age of 40 suffer from erectile dysfunction, and this is in line with what we see internationally. The international average is around five in 10 men over the age of 40," said Tumi Motsei, spokesperson for pharmaceutical company Pharma Dynamics. She added that due to social stigma attached to erectile dysfunction, many men may avoid seeking life-saving medical help. "Only 20% of men who have erectile dysfunction actually go to their doctors to seek advice, which is a big problem because there are cardiovascular diseases that are very closely linked to erectile dysfunction. Studies have shown that about two to three years after a man has presented with erectile dysfunction, he tends to present with coronary artery disease, and three to five years after this he will have an actual event," as reported by Destiny Man
