iPad Sales Decline but Still Considered the Future of Tablets

The year-over-year sales of iPad has been witnessing a decline since its Q1 calendar of 2014. This trend has continued up to Q3 of 2015 when the sales suffered a 20% decline, y-on-y. "Mark Hibben writes for Seeking Alpha, "For the December quarter, the limited availability of iPad Pro probably means no return to growth for the iPad line. However, Apple is clearly positioning the Pro and future offshoots as its personal computing platform of the future."

"The most important feature is the Apple A9X custom system on chip (SOC), which is a graphics-enhanced version of the processor in the iPhone 6s," Hibben writes. "I've speculated in the past that this would motivate Apple to port Mac OS X to its ARM SOCs. In fact, I doubt that Apple wants to manage such a transition, mainly because the Mac OS platform is not nearly as lucrative as iOS. Instead, what Apple wants to do is grow iOS to the point where it supplants Mac OS X for most usage scenarios. iPad Pro is an important step in this direction." As the availability for iPad Pro was available in limited quantities in December quarter, this means that there is no growth expected for the iPad line. However, Apple's positioning strategy for Pro as its computing platform will help the iPad stay in the game.

So, should Apple be losing sleep over iPad? No. Apple may be low in iPad sales but it still leads in the market share with their competitors not making any headway either. In fact, tablet market exploded only after iPad was introduced. Its competitors are waiting for the company to bring in new innovations so that the competitors can imitate it. As long as Apple is up in the improvements and continues to make quality products, iPad line is there to stay, reports Touch Reviews
