Facebook’s Birthday Video Cam, a highly-anticipated feature released on iOS
Facebook has introduced a new feature, only restricted to iOS right now, that allows the users to record 15-second birthday wishes for their friends. Only iOS users have the access to "Birthday Video Cam", the message can be recorded and posted on your friend's timeline. This feature will also be made available on Android soon.
According to the social media giant, the feature is introduced to make it easier to make birthday wishes more personalized. Facebook has been trying to bring in this feature for a while now. Thanks to the "friend's birthday" feature, now you don't even have to go to their profile. You can simply type your wishes in the pop-up box.
Birthday videos will be a welcome break from the clutter of generic text messages. However, as The Verge points us, as innovative as this idea seems, videos in Facebook auto-play with no sound. So the users would literally have to do something different to attract the attention. Besides, it is not always convenient to view a video message everywhere. Not to mention how time consuming a video can be. For people who have a massive friends list, it would certainly be very awkward to respond to each and every video message.
Facebook promotes the use of videos through its platform. With more than 100 million hours of video being watched every day, they have also integrated the live videos in their basic setup. If the latest feature hits off with the users, it will certainly be the go-to platform to wish birthday to people that really matter. It would be interesting to note if the recipient of the video birthday wish feels obliged to reply back with a normal text message or a video greeting, as reported Bidness Etc
