Google Docs latest update will now allow the users to edit, format their text with voice command. The new update is built on speech recognition ability that was introduced few months ago, as reported by Venture Beat

"We launched Voice typing in Google Docs to help you capture ideas, compose a letter, or even write the next great novel - all without touching your keyboard. Starting today, you can also edit and format your documents with your voice," Google product manager Isaiah Greene wrote in a blog post.

For example, you can give commands like "select all", "bold", "increase indent", "copy", "paste", "insert page break" etc.

With this latest addition, Google is expanding the use of speech recognition on Google Docs. In September, when Google first launched the voice recognition support in Docs, it also integrated the Explore function that allowed the user to automatically generate charts on Android. Just recently, it also included mobile commenting to sheets, making it virtually effortless for people to add more documents. To use the new ability, you will have to enable voice typing option in the Docs settings, PC World says

The accuracy of voice recognition has improved, says Google. Now the same technology can also be used to make or remove formatting changes and align texts. For now, the feature is only available on Google Docs being used on Chrome window on your desktop PC. But looking at its capabilities, it can have a greater use in mobile ecosystem.

In the future, people will be able to simply dictate the document without the need for typing, using their hands. This feature will come in handy on devices such as smartphones and tablets where the keyboards can be awkward for extended use. Google is already facing stiff competition from Microsoft, other player in productivity application market. However, its powerful voice feature will attract more users towards Google Docs.
