More than Half of the Connections in 2016 Accounted for by Smartphones
According to a speculation made by GSMA Intelligence, smartphones will be used for more than 50% mobile connections all over the world by the end of 2016. GSMA Intelligence is a subsidiary of GSMA, mobile communication representative body, reported Xinhua.
India will see an increase in the use of smartphones as the adoption rate climbs from 23% to an estimated 50% by 2020. This speculation has encouraged Chinese manufacturers to start producing in the country, as reported by Zee News
China is also anticipated to play an important role in the increased number of smartphone connections, even though it is the largest marker for smartphones with 890 million connections as of 2015, said the agency on Monday.
The Chinese markets have benefited greatly due to prospering middle class. The other half of its growth can be attributed to strong manufacturers such as ZTE and Huawei. Although there is a decline in smartphone growth since 2015, sales for the high-end devices are still going strong.
There was a 600% increase, from 10 to 66%, in the sale of smartphones in Myanmar in the second quarter of 2014 and 2015's last quarter, says Times of India
"Mobile broadband is the primary method of delivering affordable internet access across the Latin America and Caribbean region, delivering a range of economic and social benefits and supporting the UN Social Development Goals", said Sebastian Cabello, the GSMA's Head of Latin America.
"This means that the vast majority of the expected one billion new subscribers over the next five years will come from developing world markets", says GSMA. Mobile data volumes are forecast to grow at a CAGR of 49 per cent over the next five years - a more than seven-fold increase - approaching 40 exabytes per month by 2020, reported Nano News
