Scientists have come up with a bra equipped with infrared technology that diagnoses breast cancer at early stages.

The yet-to-be named bra, developed by researchers at the National University of Columbia, is deemed a ground breaking invention in the diagnosis of breast cancer. The infrared sensors monitor for change of temperature in breasts and alert the user in case of irregularity in temperature, reported Telegraph.

The cancerous cells generate more supply of blood than healthy cells thereby recording high temperature than normal cells. 

"When there is presence of foreign cells in mammary glands, the body requires more circulation and blood flow in the specific part where the invasive cells are found, so the temperature of this body increases," said Maria Camila Cortes Arcila, a Colombia National University student, according to Tech Times.

Cortes Arcila also noted that the idea of infrared bras is not to replace doctors but to keep the user aware in case of abnormalities. She also added that the readings recorded with the bras could also be of help to the doctors through their diagnosis, noted Inquisitr.

The temperature readings for each breast are recorded individually by the software monitors. The readings recorded are saved appropriately for further analysis.

The researchers reportedly began their study in June last year, which was followed by first phase of trial involving healthy women in July. The second phase of trial that involved 189 breast cancer patients was carried out from October through November.

The diagnostic lingerie is said to deliver result in just a minute, where green light indicates that there is no problem, yellow light indicates the need for another test and red light indicates the need for doctor's examination.
