German company Infarm is assessing it's one of a kind indoor micro-farming venture where the fresh produce of greens and herbs are set inside well-lit modular boxes.

These compact vertical farms are ideal for the urban consumer setting, according to Science Alert.

The reduced to size form of growing produce has been dubbed as "Kräuter Garten" which means "herb garden". It is especially dedicated to giving the city its own indoor farm.

Customers at present can avail themselves of herbs and salad greens in the pilot run which will go on for twelve months. Infarm has joined forces with German retail chain, Metro Group in starting off this inhouse micro-plantation.

"Pretty much any type of greenhouse needs scale to be economic and efficient. In our case, the technology we developed is kind of a building-block approach, and this building block reaches efficiencies that are much higher... It works at a very small scale, just a few square metres," said Guy Galonska, a co-founder of the vertical farming innovation.

Tomatoes, peppers and other various fruits and green and leafy veggies are also viable options in this compact farms. The Indiegogo-then funded company will also be taking more branches for its modular farming invention and will attempt to expand their growth in not just other supermarkets but in restaurants and hotels as well.

Infarm's engaging set-up may not be the first in DIY greenhouse marketing but its installation in the grocery aisle takes up just a little room.

"If you would look at our system, you would just see a sea of green," Galonska indicated.

"You wouldn't see any wasted space or wasted energy," he added.

Besides the distinguished bold flavors due to reduced supply chain, the Infarm innovation also helps in the dropping of carbon footprint as transportation is no longer required.
