Why Go For Lip Surgery: Selfies Look Better With Fuller Lips?
Selfies are the trend of the decade and the present generation is going crazy about it. What is more alarming is the surprising number of women that get their lip surgery to get fuller lips just to look sexy in the selfies.
One of the media reports has it that a lip surgery has taken place every 19 minutes in 2015. American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) also noted that there is a 48 percent increase in the number of lip surgeries in the previous year. About 27,449 men and women were said to have received lip augmentation through last one year alone, reported NDTV.
"We live in the age of the selfie and because we see images of ourselves almost constantly on social media, we're much more aware of how our lips look," said Dr David Song, president of the ASPS. "Patients are becoming more comfortable with discussing it; we're also more able to safely deliver what patients are looking for," he added, according to Self.
Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr Z. Paul Lorenc said that there is a dramatic increase in the number of patients that approach him for lip surgery. He noted that women aged around 65 or more were the ones that visited him for such purposes couple of decades back and the scenario has now changed drastically. Lorenc's present-day patient list reportedly ranges from girls in their teens to women in their 60s and above.
"We have seen a 30 percent rise over 5 years in the number of patients sending in selfies through the website with concerns about the look of their front teeth, yet when the patients come in person, often the teeth don't look too bad at all," Tim Bradstock-Smith, a clinical director and cosmetic dentist.
Juvaderm Ultra, thinner and Restylane Silk are the fillers used in the lip augmentation. The fillers are reportedly approved by the Food and Drug Administration exclusively for this purpose. Lip augmentation is relatively easy and comfortable procedure than lip implant and is said to take not more than a day.
On the other hand ASPS survey shows that a lot of women that approached surgeons, wanted subtle and natural looking lips like that of Jennifer Lawrence's pout and not fuller lips.
