Managing ones' own weight is becoming a challenge in the present scenario with the kind of lifestyle we follow and the irresistible cuisines at restaurants and fast foods around the corner of every street triggering our taste buds. Here are the 7 tips of weight management we should consider following to keep health issues at bay.

Portion your meal and cut down calories

It is important for everyone to take balanced diet for which we should portion our meal in a calorie-conscious manner, notes Cleveland Clinic. One half of the plate should comprise fresh and colored vegetables and the two quarters should be unrefined grains such as brown rice and protein-rich salmon fish or chicken breast respectively. We should be cautious about the quantity of food we take as dumping in too much of calories would result in weight-gain.

"Everyone in the food industry decided they had to make portions larger to stay competitive, and people got used to large sizes very quickly," Nestle says, according to Healthy Day. "Today, normal sizes seem skimpy." So, make sure not to give in for such marketing strategies as much as possible.

Drink good amount of water

Drinking around six to eight glasses of water a day is indispensible for weight management. Water not only keeps our body hydrated but also helps to prevent overeating. A recent research has it that drinking plain water could help reduce the body weight around one kilogram or so.

"It's been calculated that drinking the recommended amount of plain water can result in about 1.2 kilograms of weight loss over the year due to this effect -- assuming everything else, like diet and exercise, stays the same," said Associate Professor Amanda Salis from The University of Sydney's Boden Institute of Obesity, Nutrition, Exercise and Eating Disorders, noted The Huffington Post Australia.

Increase fiber intake

Increase the amount of fiber you include in your diet. Fiber fills up your stomach and decreases your craving for food. Soluble fiber like oat bran, oats, legumes, barley, psyllium, most fruits and vegetables helps in lowering body cholesterol.

Limit calorie-rich food for day-time

Eat calorie-rich food during first half of the day and take lighter food for dinner. We are active during the day and therefore most of the calories consumed are used up before we hit the bed.

Don't skip meal

Three meals a day is essential for body functioning and body's metabolism starts in full-swing once we wake up in the morning. It is better not to skip a meal or overload at once.

Take fruits and vegetables every day

Take five servings of fruits and vegetables a day to achieve enough of vitamins, minerals and fibers needed for our body. Eat fresh fruits instead of canned fruits and juices.

Exercise regularly

Make it a practice to exercise every day since physical activity helps to keep the body flexible and energetic.
