LeBron James' Space Jam 2 Stars Melo Anthony, Russell Westbrook? [RUMORS]

By now most have probably heard that “Space Jam 2” has been made official and the star of the show this time around is Cleveland Cavaliers star player LeBron James. Rumors of James getting the lead role had been out for quite some time now so that official announcement didn’t come much as a surprise.

Though it will be interesting what Warner Bros. will come up with for the sequel, such falls in the hands of director Justin Lin. Lin is of course no stranger and is best remember for his work on the Fast and Furious franchise.

With a hands down choice on the main star and credible director, the next thing that comes to mind is which players will join James in the sequel.

In Space Jam 1 that was headlined by NBA legend Michael Jordan, players that joined “His Airness” included Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Larry Johnson, Mugsy Bogues and Shawn Bradley. For those who missed the plot of that one, it involved the five players losing their skills to the “Monstars”.

For Space Jam 2, it will be interesting what plot Lin will be using but the thing here is that there will be NBA players obviously appearing. And if so, who deserves to be in the movie? Here are some possible names.

  1.  Blake Griffin. The title itself could hint at high flyers and dunkers comprising the list so why not include the man who jumped over a car in the mix. Griffin could be fit with his power and dunking ability.
  2. Zach LaVine. The last NBA Slam Dunk King should be a good choice, seeing how LaVine has gained a following for his creative dunks. Everyone knows that last showdown with Aaron Gordon so he could be considered.
  3. Carmelo Anthony. Aside from being LeBron James best friend, everyone knows that Anthony can do it from outside and inside. He does have his share of dunks but his overall talent could be an interesting steal if that is the way Lin is headed.
  4. Isaiah Thomas. After showcasing that small men can exist in a big man’s world, Boston Celtic guard Isaiah Thomas should be a sensible addition. If Mugsy Bogues had a slot last time out, why not a diminutive baller like him?
  5. Russell Westbrook. With his uncanny ability to score than pass, he could be used as a villain in this one though that depends on the script. Such could do good or bad for Westbrook but being on the negative side may all depend on him.
  6. DeMarcus Cousins. Right now, he is criticized left and right with his tantrums so why not bring that to the big screen? Cousins, when sane, is a showman so why not cast him to see if he has a future in Hollywood (no reference to trade talks involving the Los Angeles Lakers).
  7. Kobe Bryant. Now that he has retired, it makes sense to see Kobe doing something different but still basketball related. If he has the time for it, why not star in the film too?

Based on what most critics are saying, it seems that many are still hooked up to the last cast of NBA players who appeared in Space Jam 1. While that is understandable, a different plot could occur meaning it may not necessarily be in the mold of Ewing, Johnson, Barkley, Bogues and Bradley.
