Xiaomi has launched the MIUI 8 as well as its latest device offering in the Xiaomi Mi Max, new additions that should spur up some curiosity in the world of technology.

Everyone is aware of the quality that Xiaomi has garnered as far as its products are concerned but major focus seems to be on the new Chinese Android-based operating system, the MIUI 8.

The new OS version brings a lot of new things on the table such as a power-saving mode, limiting other apps from starting once launched, fraud and spam detector notifications and a multi-window management that should benefit Xiaomi users.

Aside from that, included in the latest MIUI 8 are a QR scanner, a photo editor, new and improved fonts, and a interesting feature that would see the OS base its color scheme on the weather.

The update will be made available to previous Xiaomi variants as well such as the Mi 2/2S/3/4/4C/4S/5/Max, plus all Redmi and Mi Note devices. Beta registrations for the new OS will start on May 16 with actual beta testing to commence on June 1. A developer ROM of it is expected to come out by June 17.

Aside from that, there is a new device in the Xiaomi fold with the Xiaomi Mi Max. Obviously standing out is the massive 6.44-inch display whose actual resolution remains a mystery. There will be three models of the Xiaomi Mi Max coming out coming with varying configurations.

That includes a version offering a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650, 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB storage, another with a Snapdragon 652, 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of memory and a third one featuring a Snapdragon 652, 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.

All models will come with a 4,850 mAh battery which should hold up for at least a day despite no word on how long they can actually last. Further specs of the Xiaomi Mi Max include a 16 MP main camera, a fingerprint sensor (at the back), an infrared sensor and coming with dual SIM support.

As far as pricing is concerned, the cheapest model of the Xiaomi Mi Max comes to around $230 and the high-end model priced for about $306.

The Xiaomi Mi Max is expected to be another impressive device packed in an all-metal body as it has done in the past. The bad news is availability which may (like its predecessors) be holed up in China once more.
