New iPhone Release Date Confirmed: Apple Gadget With Curved Display Out In 2018?

Apple has had a long tradition of relying on LCD screens and hearing about a shift to curved screens is nothing new. There are some who believe that Apple could start implementing its use in 2017 but the case could be full blast if one looks ahead to 2018.

All of this is tied up to yet another returning rumor involving the iPhone display. The latest round of rumors cover a potential curved OLED display which could happen in 2018 if true.

When one things of it, Samsung would immediately come to mind with its Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge which has made it stand out from the rest of Android-backed devices. But does Apple need to shift to a curved OLED or just an AMOLED display?

From a consumer standpoint, the more unique feature a device offers would be welcome. But along with that comes the pricing standpoint and one can just imagine how much that would shoot up given the price range iPhones are offered in the market.

Add to that the fact that screens are only one piece of the pie. There are the other specs that will be upgraded and most of them may need the backing of a powerful processor, added RAM and likely storage.

Could this be tied up to that rumor involving Samsung and Apple? It was in October that the Korean company was reportedly supplying OLED displays to the Cupertino company starting with the Apple Watch and future iPhones.

All that was however immediately quashed by KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, singling out the fact that Apple’s partner (Foxconn) continues to invest in advanced LCD technology which may power iPhones for the coming years.

Kuo has been reliable though the fact remains that the iPhone 8 is expected to be the Apple flagship that will be offering a new design. The upcoming iPhone 7 will carry minimal design changes per rumors as Apple is believed to be saving the best for 2018.

With that said, it does offer the question on whether it would be wise to get the iPhone 7 or forego this year and await the next variant.

Regardless, word (or rumors) of a curved iPhone 8 is interesting. It may or may not happen though the Apple flagship is certainly due for a major re-design which most folks are eagerly awaiting.
