The American company, Quaker Oats, recently recalled one of its popular health product, Quaker Oats Quinoa Granola Bars, after some adulteration issues were noticed. The reports suggest that the granola bars are believed to have been infected with listeria, as one of the company's suppliers provided contaminated sunflower seeds.

"The Quaker recall is part of a May 3 recall issued for sunflower seeds from SunOpta, which distributed seeds potentially contaminated with listeria all across the country to be included as an ingredient in salads and trail mixes," reported IB Times.

According to few reports, there are two methods by which the consumers can recognize if the Quaker Oats Granola Bars are contaminated. The consumers can find out the infected product boxes with the help of the product's expiry date and the UPC code.

Further, Fortune reported that there are two types of flavors that the granola bars lovers have to look out for. One is Quaker Quinoa Granola Bars Chocolate Nut Medley and the other one is Quaker Quinoa Granola Bars Yogurt, Fruit & Nut.

The reports suggest that if the consumers have the Chocolate Nut Medley box, then its potential contamination can be tested by checking the best before date, which is reported to be between 10/16/2016 and 10/17/2016. Also, the UPC code on the box would be 10030000322410000. If it is Yogurt, Fruit & Nut boxes then the consumers need to watch out for the boxes with best before dates of 10/10/2016 and 10/11/2016 and the UPC code 10030000322434000.

"Any consumers with a box of granola bars fitting either of those descriptions are urged to throw them away immediately or return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund," reported WISN. "Quaker is also offering a helpline number, staffed during business hours to handle questions. You can reach Quaker Oats at 800-856-5781."

Meanwhile, it is reported that Listeria is a bacteria, which is extremely harmful to pregnant ladies, young children, the elderly and those having immune deficiencies. "The Centers For Disease control report that about 1,600 people a year become ill from listeria and, of those cases, about 260 will be fatal," reported The Charlotte Observer. "Listeria is particularly difficult to get rid of for food producers, since, according to the CDC's Division of Foodborne, Waterborne, and Environmental Diseases; listeria can live in spots like drains and pipes for years."

With the contamination news trending on the internet, few reports have emerged which suggest that the potentially infected granola bars have not reached the grocery store shelves yet. It is reported that the company just recalled the product in the wake of caution. Also, the company has revealed that there have been no reports of anyone getting sick from the bars yet.
