How To Care For Your Kids' Little Teeth & Avoid Toddler Tantrums

For any parent, one responsibility they will eventually have to deal with is on how raise awareness as far as dental care for their little tykes is concerned. The cases will vary and fall largely on how a parent manages though it may be best to use a subtle approach.

But according to Vitality, it may be in the parent’s best interest to start looking out for your child’s tooth from day one.

“Brushing a baby’s teeth can be simple and stress-free” says Arvin Mirzadeh of Sussex-based dental clinic. “It’s when they become toddlers that can make it tricky. ‘I don’t want to brush my teeth’ or ‘I want to do it myself’ are all too common phrases heard in households everywhere.”

True enough, most parents are familiar with these cases and the resolutions vary. Depending on the situation, the approach that a parent follows could make a big difference that could eventually be carried on when they grow up.

With their eager young minds, a lot of patience and some creativity will be needed. This isn’t much different when it comes to other toddler-related issues like their first injection or maybe the type of food that they would eat.

Mirzadeh offers some helpful tips to parents in an effort to establish a healthy dental regime with their children.

  1. Lead by example. Kids often look up to their parents and at some point follow what they are doing. Brushing teeth is no exception and the best way to preach the practice is to show them how and why you do it regularly.
  2. Show them first before allowing them to do it independently. For some kids, many would want to do it on their own. In some cases, kids will rebel but with the right approach, folks can turn to some other measure and reason with them on why you should be doing it at least in the meantime.
  3. Guide them as they age. As kids grow up, independence sets in even when it comes to proper dental care. Parents may allow their kids to brush their teeth on their own but guiding them indirectly through tips and proper strokes will be to their advantage.
  4. Add more color and fun to entice brushing. Brushing could be something kids would avoid though there are ways to entice it. That includes turning to alluring and fun designed toothbrushes or perhaps telling them a harmless fib that this toothpaste will make their teeth whiter and/or stronger. Just make sure not to overdo it.
  5. Tooth Fairies exist. Everyone has perhaps come across the fact of ‘Tooth Fairies’ and such is normally done to ease the fear of children who may lose their first tooth. Try to mold their minds to believe that a ‘Tooth Fairy’ will reward them for their bravery by exchanging their lost tooth when placed under the pillow. Parents should keep track and of course avoid being caught.
