South Korea Introduces Ice Cream To Cure Hangover
How nice is the idea to have ice creams to treat hangover? Yes, heavy drinkers now have a reason to rejoice since a newly launched ice cream in South Korea cures hangover. A convenience store chain in Korea has introduced an ice cream named Gyeondyo-bar to get rid of the nasty trouble.
Gyeondyo-bar literally meaning "hang in there" is a grapefruit flavored ice cream bar that contains the juice extracted from oriental raisin tree fruit. The oriental raisin tree fruit, as a matter of fact, is used in Korea for treating hangover since 17th century, which is also cited in the Korean medicine books.
"[ Name of the ice cream bar] expresses the hardships of employees who have to suffer a working day after heavy drinking, as well as to provide comfort to whose who have to come to work early after frequent nights of drinking," said Withme FS convenience store that launched the amazing Gyeondyo-bar last Friday, according to Nature World News.
About 0.7% of oriental raisin tree fruit juice is reportedly present in the grape fruit flavored ice cream bar. It is also reported that a study published in the Journal of Neuroscience in 2012 has it that oriental raisin tree fruit extract showed a positive effect in reducing the symptoms of intoxication in rats.
"Drinking is a big business in South Korea, and so are hangover remedies. The uncanny industry generates about $126 million in annual sales. Hangover cures can be in the form of pills, beverages, and even cosmetic products that make women look fresh even after a night of booze. There is also what they call the "hangover soup," which is a staple in every Korean restaurant," noted Nature World News.
According to World Health Organization's (WHO) report released in 2014, on an average South Koreans drink about 12.3 liters of alcohol a year. The statistics also has it that Americans drink about 9.2 liters of alcohol annually, noted Mashable. However, people in the US cannot rejoice the pleasure of getting rid of the Monday- morning trouble in a sweet way, since the ice cream bar is sold only in the convenience store chain in Korea.
