Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Rumors: Release Date Is Set In October Or First Quarter Of 2017

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date is rumored to be in October or the first quarter of 2017. However, there are also speculations that the device could be launched as early as June this year.

Since the launch of Microsoft Surface Pro 4 took place in October last year it seems sensible to expect a similar release date for the upcoming device as well. However, the company doesn't seem to follow any specific criteria for unveiling its new devices. For instance, Microsoft surface Pro was launched in February 2013 followed by Pro 2 in June 2014. The version 3 of Surface Pro was out in June 2014 while fourth one was launched in October 2015.

"Many reports have suggested that Microsoft will release Surface Pro 5 in June to counter Apple's recent launch of MacBook and the impending launch of MacBook Pro. If that indeed happens, it must be noted that Microsoft would have little to offer this year, other than updated Windows 10 should it decide to launch a new tablet; a new Intel processor is not expected until next year," reported News Everyday.

On the other hand, reports that predict the possibility of launch of the new device during the first quarter of 2017 have couple of good reasons to substantiate the claim. Firstly, Microsoft Surface Pro 5 could be launched with upgraded version of Microsoft Windows software named Redstone if the release date is set in 2017.

The second reason happens to be the Windows 10 upgrade that is scheduled around the start of 2017. That being the case Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be out with Redstone software and upgraded Windows 10 if it is unveiled in 2017. Few other reports also attribute Intel's next-generation chip for the delayed launch of the device.

"However, the Pro 5 coming out in the next few months could be prevented by Microsoft's decision to wait out for the mass availability of Intel's next-generation chip known as Kaby Lake. Report said that Kaby Lake will polish the imperfections seen in the Skylake-powered Surface Pro 4 so Microsoft is only willing to make some release schedule adjustments," according to Yibada.
