Hostess Recall 2016: Select Snacks Recalled for Possible Peanut Contamination; List of Hostess Foods Affected
Some Hostess snack products by Giant Food, LLC will be recalled for potential peanut contamination. Peanuts and peanut residue can cause adverse reactions to those who are allergic to it, but those without peanut allergy can safely consume the foods. The company has voluntarily recalled more than 700,000 cases of the affected snacks.
Undeclared Peanut Residue in Flour Prompted Hostess Items Recall
In an announcement released by the US Food and Drug Administration, select Hostess snack items are being recalled due to the flour that may have been contaminated with peanut residue.
The affected flour comes from the Hostess supplier, Grain Craft. In a separate safety alert by the FDA, the source of peanut residue comes from the company's soft red winter wheat flour. Grain Craft has looked at their flour and confirmed that the mentioned flour had peanut protein. The production and distribution of the flour was stopped on April 30 and on June 3, Hostess recalled its products that made use of the soft red winter wheat flour.
