High body mass index and type 2 diabetes may increase the risk of liver cancer, a recent survey suggests. Liver cancer is common in America since the mid-1970s. Lots of patients have been diagnosed with this disease.

Peter Campbell director of digestive system cancer at the American cancer society conducted a survey of 1.57 million adults, along with his colleagues. None of the participants suffered from cancer when the survey began.

Almost 6.5 percent of the adults were diagnosed with the type 2 diabetes; it is an obesity-related disease. Around 2100 adults developed liver cancer.

There were patients with obesity and type 2 diabetes both. Few others did not suffer from diabetes, but they were obese. Research proved that people suffering from type 2 diabetes were most likely to suffer from liver cancer or we can say that they were most likely to be diagnosed with liver cancer.

There is 8 percent risk of developing liver cancer with an inch of increase to the waistline, research proves. It is always advised to maintain your body weight in accordance with your height.

The research says that eight adults out of 100,000 will develop cancer in the coming years. All this is published in the journal Cancer Research.

Though there is no cause and effect relationship between liver cancer and obesity. But facts cannot be denied. Researchers are sticking to the surveys they have conducted.

Obesity and diabetes are common diseases everywhere. So there is a lesson to be learned from such surveys. These minor diseases can convert into liver cancer. Hepatitis b and hepatitis c are also linked to liver cancer but they are less common than obesity and diabetes.

It is up to the individuals, how they maintain their body weight. Taking precautions at the right time can shun people from a disease like liver cancer.
