Pokémon Go Trips and Tricks: How to Resolve Gym Errors

By Shobha Vats | Update Date: Oct 20, 2016 07:41 AM EDT

Most of us were psyched when Pokémon GO came out. Primarily because a large chunk of our childhood was spent watching Ash, Brock and Misty catch them.

Not only did we love watching them catch Pokémon, but we also enjoyed enacting them on the ground, pretending to fight, be it with cards or some of the other trending video games and board games back then.

So when Niantic announced the release of its first real-time version of Pokémon GO, we were ecstatic to live out our childhood fantasies, even if it was some ten years late.

The Gym Error
As we started playing the game, while it was taking the world by storm, some of us let our better instincts take the front seat and started finding shortcuts to escape the real dedication this game demanded.

The developers banned some of these shortcuts from the game. They started giving errors when tried as a preventive method for cheating. However, it also ended up affecting players who weren't dishonest. One of these errors was the gym error.

The gym error serves as another form of soft ban. This error occurs when you stray outside the range of the gym while battling inside it.

If you do exit the gym range and try to re-enter the gym, it gives you the Pokémon Go gym error. Not to mention, it prohibits you from battling in the gym for next ten minutes to come.

While the obvious solution to this would be not to move while fighting, another way would be to enhance your GPS performance.

How Do You Tackle It?
In case you are soft banned you can use a program like Masterball or can try the Quick Spin tool (which will  do the spinning for you), or once you reach a poke stop, you can perform a spin trick, then close the stop and keep turning it repeatedly.

It might take you around thirty minutes to get unbanned. A few ways to know again would be to check if you are getting stuff from the stop again, or if you can loot at poke stops and catch Pokémon.

Sometimes, even though you can spin and gain experience or can catch Pokémon's, you might not be able to attack at a gym.

The Niantic Rescue
When Niantic responded to the same, they suggested that it could be because another person just beat down that gym earlier or could have been training at that gym when you battled it.

It might have led to the server believing that the fight is complete and you experienced a network failure, hence the error. Sometimes the populated gyms show this error, but if you go to a secluded gym, you can battle regularly.

Sometimes you just require to reshuffle your entire monster team and re-enter the gym, and there goes your problem! Poof!

As frustrating as the error might be, it hasn't deterred most players from trying new tricks. The dedication of the audience of this game has been exemplary and has proved that a few hiccups are not going to stop them from becoming religious trainers.

If all fails, you can always report the bug to Niantic. Only, say the issue as a 'High-Priority Issue' and fill out the form with your gym information.
